All German citizenship test questions

You usually register at your local adult education centre (Volkshochschule, VHS) or another approved test centre; taking part costs 25 euros. There is no nationwide fixed exam date — test centres offer dates regularly, often with a waiting time of a few weeks.

In the exam you have 60 minutes. Every question is multiple choice with four options, exactly one of which is correct; no aids are allowed. 17 correct answers are enough to pass. If you practise online beforehand, you already know the questions from the catalogue — no new questions appear in the exam.

You do not get the result immediately: the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) marks the test, and the written notification usually arrives by post after a few weeks. If you pass, you receive a certificate for your naturalisation application; if not, you can retake the test as often as you like.
